PHILIP McLAREN

Philip McLaren is a Kamilaroi Australian born in Redfern, Australia. He holds a Doctor of Creative Arts degree, is a multi-prize winning author of historical fiction, contemporary fiction and non-fiction, social commentary, screenplays and academic essays. He has written seven novels, four of which are translated and distributed internationally. He has lectured in Canada, England, France, Spain, Germany, New Zealand and Australia, and been invited to deliver papers and literary readings at numerous international arts festivals.
He has also worked in the media as a writer, producer, director and editor in film and television and previously as a set designer, animator, illustrator, graphic designer and scenic artist; for several years he was a creative director in advertising in London, Vancouver and Sydney. In television he worked for the Seven, Nine and Ten networks in Australia; NBC, CBS, ABC plus Hanna-Barbera and Dick Clark in the USA; CBC and CTV in Canada; and the NZBC in New Zealand amassing well over 100 on-screen credits. He lived abroad for 12 years and successfully exhibited paintings and sculpture internationally. He now lives on five acres in the hills behind Byron Bay, NSW, Australia.
